FIRST
Robotics Competition Mentor
FIRST Robotics
aims to “transform our culture by creating a world
where science and technology are celebrated and where
young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes”
(Dean Kamen).
Adults are needed
to model “gracious professionalism” as they mentor students in the
design and building of a robot that plays a game. Coach, problem-solve
and inspire creative thinking. Use your skills and knowledge to help
students through the invention process. Help students identify the
strategy they will use to play the game, which changes every year; help
students design the systems that will meet the strategic goals; help
students prototype, test, and modify the systems; help students promote
FIRST, attract sponsors, design webpage, document the process, work
safely. Year round, afternoons and weekends, as your time permits.
Special Event Volunteer
Adult volunteers are needed to prepare
for special events and help host special events. Preparation can include
assembling kits for activities, greeting visitors, helping kids
participate in an activity.
Coach the Wizard
Sometimes, you want to help kids but you
don’t want to be the one working with them. The Wizard has learned a lot
for adults who want to share their knowledge but are not prepared to
work with kids. Please call us if you have an idea for an activity.
